HISTORY

More than half a century giving value to the countryside

Year 1956.

In 1956, a group of farmers from Riudoms, encouraged by the town’s veterinarian, Mr. Carles Caballero Monrós, founded the Riudoms Agricultural Cooperative.

The beginnings of the entity were quite difficult due to a lack of belief in cooperatives among local farmers. However, the situation was improved with the acquisition of the house located at Plaça del Portal number 4 in our town, where a wine cellar was installed, then an important product in Riudoms, and also an oil mill. Later, the old garage of the Hispano Riudomense on Avinguda Montbrió was acquired as a warehouse for fertilizers, feed and phytosanitary products.

A meeting point
and collaboration

Today, the Cooperative is a living reality in our town. It has sections for nuts, oil, supplies and a credit section, which offers banking services to the organization’s members.

The oil produced, protected by the Siurana Designation of Origin, is highly regarded and is accredited as one of the best in our area. Recently, the Cooperative has taken a leap forward and inaugurated an oil mill and a nut receiving plant with the most advanced technology, on the Camí de les Passeres in the municipality.

This energy is what made possible the inauguration of the Agrobotiga, a store with special attention to top quality local products, in 2006. The aim is to give added value to our agricultural production and demonstrate that this is the path of the future for agriculture.

The cooperative has grown while maintaining its essence

In summary, the Cooperative is optimistically facing the historic event of its fiftieth anniversary, which was celebrated in 2006, and has the challenge of continuing to provide the best service to farmers through agricultural associations, one of the most distinctive characteristics of Catalan agriculture.
